Death be not proud !!!

Title is adapted from John Donne’s sonnet ” Death Be not Proud“.

Death is a mystery….

Well, I have not encountered death…To meet him/her I need to die once…Do I want to die ?  This time…No , of course I am scared of death…Why John Donne wrote that poem asking death not to be proud…? Why not Death should be proud ? It has got power. It takes life away…We battle a lot…we are battling till now…each day..everyday…and in the end…we lose…every time…every time…and every time….We lose in each battle…

I saw my small dog…batteling against death….whom I loved a lot… I was there to see him batteling against death…..but he lost…This typing hand….with this hand…I threw him in river….He was suffocating…. I was helpless….I was powerless…Death was powerful that time too. Death is powerful now as well….F*** I was helpless….to stop death…. I let him go with death….

Why not Death be proud , Mr. Donne….?

I was there to see her….my great grand mother….104 years old…battling against death. Her wrinkles….made her look horrible… No teeth….but a voice…”Babu” “babu”…name that she used to call my grandfather…..She was struggling hard….I saw her battling against death…Even she moved her…paralysed leg…..to stop death taking her away…..

Who could stop death? People told..it was hard for her to live….It was nice that death took her away….Is this the reason of satisfaction? I asked this question so many times to myself….Then only one thing comes in my mind every time….”The battle she was fighting against death”…..Had she wanted to die….? Why she was batteling against death.

Why one has to die….? Why nothing can stop the mighty, dreadful… Why I was helpless….why people become helpless……

Yes, Mr. Donne….your poem consoles me….

DEATH be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadfull, for, thou art not so,
For, those, whom thou think’st, thou dost overthrow,
Die not, poore death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleepe, which but thy pictures bee,
Much pleasure, then from thee, much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee doe goe,
Rest of their bones, and soules deliverie.
Thou art slave to Fate, Chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poyson, warre, and sicknesse dwell,
And poppie, or charmes can make us sleepe as well,
And better then thy stroake; why swell’st thou then;
One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die

The most consoling poem …..to the desperate heart….

P.S. Death be not proud…..

  1. Well, you have questioned the almighty death this time. I’m not a philosopher who can talk about life and death but can share what I think about it. I’m very much impressed by what they say in Vipassana. The questions you raising here are perhaps similar to the thoughts of young Siddartha who left his palace in search of answers and became Buddha. Today nobody cares what Buddha wanted to convey, they have make places to worship Buddha, no-one cares about his message.
Impermanence is the truth. If you accept life than you should accept death. it is easy to say but hard to accept though. We want all the good things to be with us forever but it is not possible. We think we are almighty, we can do anything but one day death shows us what we are. But I don’t think we are helpless against death, we just deny the fact that death is there with us when we got born. The day we accept the fact, we’ll find many answers within ourselves.

Death be not Proud”

    😉
